JAPAN VIETNAM TECHNOLOGY AND AGRICULTURE COOPERATION As the only economically advanced nation in Asia, Japan is increasingly promoting the economic and cultural exchanges with the neighbouring countries while contributing to world peace and economic stability. On the other hand, Vietnam, which is expected to become a focus member in ASEAN , is on tne process of transforming to join the industrial countries. Although it has been achieving high industrial growth during last decade, its main production is still primary products. Therefore how to maintain the balanced development is the most crucial issue for Vietnam.


The economic collaboration between Japan and Vietnam is currently focusing on improving industry and infrastructure. However, Vietnam should also reserve a major part of the foreign economic development assistabce for its agricultural development. This has its own meaning because in the long future Japan may face a food supply shortage and that it will rely heavily on imports of primary products from other Asian countries as Vietnam..
